From September 1 to 14, 2026, 22 students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) visited Kyutech for a two-week study program organized by the Institute of Liberal Arts.
UPM students joined Kyutech students enrolled in “International Collaborative Learning” for Project-Based Learning (PBL) activities on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The program also included area studies in the Wakato area of Kitakyushu. Through lectures, fieldwork, and a visit to the Kitakyushu Eco-Town Center, students learned about Kitakyushu’s development as an industrial city, its experience with environmental pollution, and efforts toward more sustainable coexistence between industry and the environment.
With the cooperation of Associate Professor Toyonori Terada from the Admissions Office, students also took part in a “Paper Airplane Challenge,” experiencing engineering and design thinking through hands-on trial and error. A visit to the Toyota Motor Kyushu plant provided another opportunity to learn about Japanese manufacturing and advanced production technologies.
Cultural exchange activities, including a welcome event at the Language Lounge and an exploration of Kokura with Kyutech students, further encouraged interaction among participants.
Through these academic and cultural activities, students gained new perspectives on SDGs, local history, engineering, and technology while reflecting together on a more sustainable future.
