Kyutech Graduate Student Wins Best Poster Award at IUMRS-ICEM 2026

Update:2026.07.08

The International Union of Materials Research Societies–19th International Conference on Electronic Materials 2026 (IUMRS-ICEM 2026), organized by the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS), was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from June 28 to July 1, 2026.

At the conference, Mr. Muhammad Syahmi Hazim Bin Mohd Nizar, a second-year master’s student in the Department of Human Intelligence Systems, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, received the Best Poster Award.

IUMRS-ICEM is one of the world’s leading international conferences in the field of materials science. The 2026 conference brought together nearly 1,000 researchers from about 50 countries around the world.

The Best Poster Award is a prestigious honor presented only to a very limited number of outstanding presentations, selected through a rigorous review process. This award demonstrates that the student’s dedicated research efforts have been highly recognized on the international stage.
It also represents a significant achievement that highlights the research excellence and talent development of Kyutech to the global community.

In addition, Professor Hirofumi Tanaka of the Department of Life Science and Systems Engineering, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, who also serves as Director of the Research Center for Neuromorphic AI Hardware, delivered an invited keynote lecture at the conference. Specially Appointed Professor Takuya Matsumoto of the Research Center for Neuromorphic AI Hardware also delivered an invited lecture.

Together with the student’s international award, these invited lectures underscored the growing global interest and expectations surrounding Kyutech’s research in neuromorphic AI hardware, particularly in the emerging field of “Material AI,”which aims to realize intelligence within materials themselves.

Kyutech will continue to advance the fusion of materials science, artificial intelligence, and hardware research, contributing to the creation of next-generation intelligent technologies and to the global community.
