Kyutech Faculty Member Participates in the 2nd ASEAN-NEXUS Early Career Researchers Conclave (2026)

Update:2026.06.29

Professor Tomohiro Shibata of the Department of Human Intelligence Systems, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), participated in the 2nd ASEAN-NEXUS Early Career Researchers (ECR) Conclave 2026, held in Singapore from June 2 to 5, 2026.
The Conclave was organized as part of the NEXUS Program promoted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Its primary objective is to foster international networking and research collaboration among Early Career Researchers (ECRs) from Japan and ASEAN member countries.

This year's Conclave was held under the theme of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in collaboration with Singapore, the current ASEAN Country Coordinator for Japan. A total of 50 young researchers participated, including 10 from Japan and 40 from ASEAN countries. Through discussions on the application of AI to address societal challenges and advance scientific research, participants explored opportunities for future international collaborative projects.

Professor Shibata participated in the event as a Program Officer of the JST NEXUS Japan–Singapore Joint Research Program. During the Conclave, he delivered a keynote speech, conducted an ECR Mastery Class for young researchers, and served as a judge for the team pitch competition held on the final day.

Throughout the event, participants formed interdisciplinary and multinational teams to develop innovative research ideas aimed at addressing global and regional societal challenges.
The researcher networks and collaborative research concepts established through the Conclave are expected to lead to future international joint research projects and collaborative applications for competitive research funding.

Kyushu Institute of Technology remains committed to strengthening international research networks and nurturing the next generation of researchers, thereby contributing to the further advancement of global research collaboration.
