On November 10, 2025, in cooperation with the Tobata Police Station, the International Student Section of Kyutech conducted a Bicycle Traffic Safety and Personal Safety Seminar for international students at the Tobata Campus.
The seminar aimed to comprehensively raise safety awareness among international students living in Japan. It included explanations of upcoming traffic law amendments, rules for safe bicycle riding, crime prevention measures, and a demonstration of self-defense techniques.
Police officers explained that, under the revised traffic laws to be enforced from the next fiscal year, bicycles will be required to comply with traffic regulations in the same way as automobiles. They also explained that violations such as ignoring traffic signals or failing to stop at designated points will be subject to penalties, and that offenders may be required to pay fines or attend mandatory training sessions. International students listened attentively to these explanations and learned practical safety tips, such as the importance of wearing helmets and checking brakes and lights regularly, reaffirming the significance of traffic safety.
In addition, as part of fraud prevention efforts, examples of scams using social media and phone calls were introduced, along with practical advice on how to avoid becoming a victim. Students showed strong interest in these topics, recognizing them as risks they may encounter in their daily lives.
Finally, a self-defense demonstration was held, teaching basic techniques and mental preparedness for emergencies, which further strengthened participants’ awareness of personal safety.
This seminar provided a valuable opportunity for international students from countries with different cultures, lifestyles, and rules to deepen their understanding of traffic regulations and to enhance their awareness of crime prevention while living in Japan.
