On July 28, 2025, Professor Tomohiro Shibata of the Department of Human Intelligence Systems, Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, delivered a lecture titled “Care Technologies for Older Adults in Super-Aged Japan: The Frontiers of Robotics and AI” at the Japan Creative Centre (JCC), Embassy of Japan in Singapore.
Professor Shibata explained the challenges facing Japan’s super-aged society and introduced both his own research findings and relevant government initiatives as potential solutions. He also emphasized the importance of promoting the use of robotic devices to help address these issues.
In addition, Professor Shibata conducted demonstrations of assistive suits designed to reduce chronic lower back pain and injuries caused by patient transfers, as well as robots that support standing posture and mobility between sitting positions in restrooms and changing areas. During the lively Q&A session, participants asked numerous questions, reflecting a strong interest in robotic technologies.
