Mission Statement

The mission of any university as an institute of higher learning is to contribute to education, research and society. In accordance with our founding philosophy of producing skillful, accomplished and competent "ladies and gentlemen" with a thorough grasp of technology, the key objective of the Kyushu Institute of Technology (KIT) is to raise up outstanding engineers who will be international leaders in their fields.

KIT was selected for the 21st Century Center of Excellence Program, Asian Core Program, Initiatives for Attractive Education in Graduate Schools, Support Program for Contemporary Educational Needs, Progressive Education Program for IT Specialist Training, University Education Internationalization Promotion Program, University Intellectual Property Headquarters Development Project, etc. This is just one example of how we pursue our ideals of consistently improving the quality of education and research and maintaining the university as a center for the transmission of cultural knowledge and wisdom.

As shown in "About KIT" and "Academics", KIT is comprised of three campuses each with its own history and functions. The Faculty of Engineering Campus, our first campus, is located in Tobata, Kitakyushu and its principle aim is to develop fundamental engineering skills with a particular focus on production and manufacturing. The Faculty of Computer Science and Systems Engineering campus is located in Kawazu, Iizuka in accordance with the national policy for the redevelopment of coal mining areas, and its chief objective is to develop information engineering focused on advanced information technology. The Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, which forms the nucleus of the Kitakyushu Science and Research Park, is located in Wakamatsu, Kitakyushu and its principle goal is to facilitate interdisciplinary engineering research on the principles of life in cooperation with national, public and private universities and with the All Japan Liaison Office. KIT is a comprehensive and innovative university that encompasses all branches of engineering and makes positive contributions to society through education and research, responding to the demand for next-generation industries as a source of intellectual knowledge.
